A Couple of Things
Thank you so much for sending all the school supplies right away! All the students had them here on Monday so we were able to sort and label them all. They were so excited to get their suppliesJ I have put away some of their supplies to hand out in January, i.e. markers, glue sticks and bottles, erasers, pencil crayons, and new pencils will be handed out regularly. As well thank you for the Parent Questionnaire forms that have been returned already. These are super helpful to me in getting to know the children as quickly as possible.
Agendas will be used regularly and integrated into the curriculum. The routine will be to bring them to school each day and first thing in the morning have them open on their desks for me to check and sign. This way I will see any notes from you right away. This will also be a time for them to set a daily goal, which will be indicated with a star. It may take awhile to get the hang of goal setting and until then you’ll probably get a few chuckles in. The agendas will then go home to be checked daily by you. I have explained to the students that it is their responsibility to have you check it. I have suggested that they bring it to you open with a pen (to initial that you saw it) and a kiss so that it is no work at all for you. However having a specific spot to put it when they unpack their backpacks could also work well for your family.
Another communication tool that I will be using is Fresh Grade. This is an online portfolio system that is password protected and approved of by the school district. I can take pictures or videos of your child and his/her work and upload them to each child’s portfolio. For me to post pictures and videos of your child and their work for you to view in their portfolio, I do need the attached forms completed and returned. If you would like to know more information about Fresh Grade, you can find more information at: https://www.freshgrade.com/parents/our-products, or be sure to ask me at Meet the Teacher night which will be held on Thursday, September 22nd at 6pm. Trust me each portfolio ends up filled with adorableness!
As well these forms give permission for staff at the school to use internet-based learning tools with your child and as well as media consent for your child’s images. I will not be posting pictures of the children on our website but I will make a slideshow of photos taken throughout the year that you will be able to download at the end of the year. If you do not want to give full media consent but do wish to have your child included in a Fresh Grade portfolio and end of the year slideshow then please make a note of that on the Student Image Permission Form. While on the topic of images, please note that if you take a photo or video of your child at school and plan to post it anywhere online, it should not include the faces of any other students, staff, or parents unless you have consent.
Have a lovely weekend,
Stacey Hernberg
