Here is the Life Cycle Inquiry Project that we are working on in class. I am posting it here for you to either discuss with your child. As well some students have expressed an interest in working on it at home to get more information. We do have books in the classroom. Also some students have asked if they can do another project at home. These sheets provide a framework for their inquiry but they are welcome to do additional information and present in other ways. This is an assignment that we are working on in class and more class time will still be given. I am posting it here if children want to discuss their assignment with their parents and/or work on it at home too. Dear Families,
Things are running along tickety-boo now and there is lots of happy learning going on. The students are starting some projects and they will be given lots of class time to work on them. However because some children and their families might want to do more inquiry at home, I will be posting some assignments here on the website using the tag Enrichment Work. Some families want homework and some do not so most of these assignments will be optional and therefore will not have a due date. However once in a while I do want all students to participate in a homework assignment. If the assignment is mandatory, I will send it out by email and it will include a due date. Halloween falls on a Monday this year:( The students are welcome to wear a costume to class. The school does ask that students do not wear or bring masks or weapons with their costumes and we do want them to be comfortable. We will be doing lots of fun Halloween activities throughout the day but we will not be having party food since it will already be a sugary evening/week ahead. I do ask that for the rest of the week children bring no more than one Halloween treat to consume during the school day (no gum, please). And the following weeks the treats can stay home. Sugar and learning just don’t mix well. Whether in the hyper stage or the crash stage, one’s focus in very compromised. We want to make sure the children are in their best form to receive the best education they can. That’s one of the perks of living in Canada, a world class education! Parent teacher conferences will be held on November 2nd and 3rd. I would really like to have every family have at least one parent attend. Report cards can often seem jargony and not so straight forward and just as you thought you were getting a hang of all that jargon, they will be changing this year to new jargon. I would really like to be as honest and straight forward as possible with you about your child’s learning so it is best if you can make arrangements for your child to not come with you. It’s much easier to fit it all in to a 15 minute time slot with a frank grown-up conversation. If this isn’t possible let me know and maybe we can schedule a telephone conference instead. Enjoy your weekend and try to stay dry! Cheers, Stacey Hernberg Because I have signed up for a paid account this year, I am still waiting for it to be prepared. I hear it should be soon. This version should be fairly quick to set up. As soon as I have access, I can upload some of your child's learning and beginning of the year assessment. You will then get an email letting you know that you can activate your account. Please note that the email the school has on file from the "Student Information Verification" form is the one that is automatically put into FreshGrade. As well, that is the email that I use to send out class emails. If you haven't had any emails from me, please call the office to see what email they have for you.
