Please tell your children that I would have like to have said good-bye in person but I will not be back to JKE this school year. I will miss them all greatly and I welcome any emails from them. The weekend before school started, I accepted an E.L.L. position with the school district. In other words, I will now be an ESL teacher. Although I am leaving JKE before I would have liked to, I am very excited about my new position. It was an opportunity that I couldn't pass up. I wish all my former students all the best in their coming school year and in their years to come! I am unable to send out an email to all of the parents of my last year's class that I expected to see on Tuesday because it is no longer my class so I no longer have the emails, stored.
Parents,

Dear Families of Students in Divisions 18, and 19; On Wednesday, June 21st, our classes will be visiting the Walnut Grove Community Park for an end-of-year celebration. You are welcome to join us for the festivities. We will be leaving the school at 11:00 AM and returning by 2:45 PM. If it is raining or too cold we will stay at school and plan to go the next day. The Spray Park will only be on if the temperature is forecasted to be 18ºC or higher. Please send your child with their regular lunch and snack, which will be eaten at the park, water bottle, hat, sunscreen, towel and swimsuit. Flip-flops or water-shoes are recommended. Students may bring water toys but will need to use them appropriately. Although there is no cost for this field trip, we still need the attached permission form completed and returned. If you are able to walk with your child’s class, please let us know. Parents and siblings are welcome to join us. Sincerely, Jen King, Stacey Hernberg Permission form file below
The children are working on partner or small group Science design projects based on the topic of Force and Motion. They each signed up for a project and I have included the “to do” lists for each project below as some steps may involve gathering materials from home. As well, it would be very enriching for them if you could discuss with your child which project they are doing and which step they are on. Earth Day Weekend Challenge
In honour of Earth Day, see how many things on this list you can do.
We have been learning about communities in B.C. To finish off our research on our very own Langley, the students have been asked to prepare a brochure to entice people to come visit Langley. I gave them a template that they can use but I also told them that they could work with someone older and bit tech savvy to create their own on the computer if they wish. If you need another template, it is posted below:
The students are either doing blue or green words sorts. This past week and a half, those doing the blue word sort focused on short o and a spelling patterns and those doing the green word sort focussed on short and long a spelling patterns. Your child will know which colour they did but they can always try the other colour too.
On Tuesday, February 14th, we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day. We will be doing lots of fun activities this day. One of them will be opening our Valentines. Although it is not mandatory to bring Valentines, it is lots of fun at this age to do so. However it is not fun to be left out. So if your child is bringing Valentines please make sure that they have one for each child in the class. A class list is included below.
Another fun activity on this day is partaking in a Friendship Fruit Salad. For this activity, I am asking that each child bring in 1-2 servings of fruit (washed, peeled, cut) in small sealable container that they can then use to dish up their fruit salad into and eat it out of. As well they should bring a spoon or fork to eat their salad with. By 1-2 servings, I mean a whole apple, orange, banana, 4-8 strawberries, or ¼ pineapple as some examples. I will then put like fruits together to let the children choose their own fruits for their salad. I will supply the ice cream to accompany the fruit salad Here are the names of all the children in our class: Reid Tegan Phoenix Sophia Tony Nicholas Zachary Arjun Charleigh Karsen Mia Sergio Olivia Parker Jacob Nicole Cole Caitlyn Josiah Sophie Kira Ashley Sabastian Here is a link to a blog post that I wrote awhile back about a math game that the students have learned how to play in class. We have only played it for adding and subtracting but if you have older children you might want to try it with multiplication and division.
